Paving and Sidewalk Construction for FY22

DPW received and accepted bids for paving of roadways during FY22. Sidewalk construction bids were completed in March and construction is underway. The following projects total $1.7 Million and are currently procured and funded:

1. Summer Street – from Moran Square to Harvard Street (1/2 mile). Project will replace and construct sidewalks and ADA ramps on both sides of the roadway with tree pits installed where possible. Roadway will be milled and repaved. Construction of sidewalks to start next week. Total cost approximately $650,000 funded through Chapter 90 and a $20,000 grant from Greening the Gateway Cities.

2. Oak Hill Road – from Franklin Road to Sarah Lane (1.15 miles). Project will Cold-Inplace-Recycle 5-inches of asphalt with a microsurfacing. This is the same process that was done last year on Crawford Street. DPW crews are also replacing and constructing new culverts, catch basins, and drainage swales to alleviate the flooding issues. Total cost is approximately $300,000 funded completely with City capital funds thanks to the support of the Mayor and City Council.

3. Williams/McIntire/Alpine Roads – from Ashburnham Hill Road to about #200 Alpine Road (1.5 miles). The project will completely reconstruct the roadway by full-depth reconstruction and adding 4-inches of asphalt on top. Total cost is approximately $650,000 funded through Chapter 90.

4. Electric Avenue Crosswalks – Crosswalks with flashing pedestrian signs across Electric Avenue at the Knights of Columbus and at Mt. Elam Road. ADA ramps and crosswalks across Forest Hill, Milk, and Mallard Drive. Total cost is approximately $100,000 funded through a Complete Streets grant and Chapter 90.

5. Perkins Street – Full-depth reconstruction and pavement in coordination and financial support from redevelopment of Conquest Video.
